I’d give him less if I could. I went to him for a 9/11 related condition. I saw him for a couple of years. He talks too much. Is too quick to prescribe. Is full of himself and does not do medicine properly. I didn’t need to know that his wife struggles with her weight for years, or that he got a new dog and he uses his family Dyson hair dryer to dry the dog after a bath or any of the other personal stuff he told me in my sessions. He is a Psychiatrist and isn’t supposed to be talking personal stuff. I tolerated it. I thought he just wanted me comfortable so I could talk. My husband developed cognitive issues. I spoke to Rutstein about them and asked if he could help, being a Psychiatrist “neurologist” and all. He said sure. He never once mentioned he would be doing monthly therapy sessions with him. After many years of my suffering with an unknown illness that I complained to Rutstein about out at almost each session along with many hospitalizations, unnecessary procedures, testing and specialist and out of sheer frustration because doctors could not find anything I finally got a diagnosis and told him about it. I asked him to research it and familiarize himself with it. I asked him to speak with my husband about it and explain it to him because it put a lot of strain on my family. He didn’t do it. After almost year of seeing Rutstein my husband left me. I was unable to walk because of my illness. When I asked Rutstein if he knew my husband was going to leave all he said was that he was not happy. His receptionist Marie was nervous and upset when I called crying. She said she told him not to see couples. I was almost suicidal because I was so dependant on my husband when when he left me. I could hardly walk, my vision was blurred and double so he had to drive me everywhere. I have no family here except my 21 year old daughter. I was so sick with now ANOTHER 9/11 related illness and now 9/11 cancer. I come to find out that Rutstein should have never seen my husband and I as patients. If my husband was unhappy with the marriage Rutstein was supposed to refer us to marriage counseling. In all the years I saw him he never mentioned counseling for my family issues. Instead my husband says that with Rutsteins help he was able to leave me. He planned in advance. Purchased a house and just up and left. He said he was going to see Rutstein the day he left me. I tried talking to Rutstein again because my husband forged my name on medical reimbursement checks to the tune of $25,000.00 that came in my name. A few were Medicare checks. I told Rutstein about them and that is when he got nervous. That is when he started to act like a psychiatrist. He didn’t talk in my session after that. I’m certain my husband has some serious cognitive issues as well as depression. I trusted this man with me and my husband and he hurt us. Rutstein should be ashamed of himself for doing what he did. He isn’t supposed to hurt people like this. Stay away!! this man is the epitome of kill them with kindness..
I have been seeing Dr. Rutstein for about 10 years. He is caring and easy to talk to. He has allowed me to be an integral part of the treatment process always taking my suggestions into consideration before making changes. His office manager Mary is excellent at what she does. She is very responsive to telephone inquiries and has been very helpful on numerous occasions. I recommend having a consultation with Dr. Rutstein if you are seeking sound psychiatric advice.
I hate having to find a new doctor, but that’s the position I found myself in. I did some research, and after a few disappointing appointments, Dr. Rutstein was recommended to me not only by my prior psychiatrist, but also my regular MD. When my first appointment came around, I was so relieved! He is attentive, thorough and truly understanding. He’s also very pleasant and uplifting if you’re not in the best mood that day. I’m so grateful to have found such a great psychiatrist.
His office staff is extremely kind, they always return phone calls, and follow up on anything I may need.
I definitely recommend this doctor 100%!
I don’t think the reviews are accurate regarding doctor Rutstein- i have suffered from generalized depression and anxiety for years- often times you do build up a tolerance for medication – my Primary care doctor suggested finding a physchiatrist with a psychopharmacology approach to trying different medications- some work some do not- but with mental health issues, a lot of times the only way to know if something works or is effective is to utilize a doctor like Eric Rutstein to closely monitor you- the comment about “cocktails” yes it’s true – that is what he is supposed to do for people like me- and other suffering from a unique mental disability – there is no rule book with answers when it comes to what medication works within an individuals body and brain chemistry – yes some he tried worked, some he tried did not work- but I can tell you he does his homework and when experimenting because you’ve exhausted so many drugs – well he does exactly what a competent doctor does and that is monitor closely and do homework – he was not awarded A prestigious award by Boca community hospital a few years back for being irresponsible – in fact he is extremely compassionate – regarding his staff? Yes, like any office I’ve had challenges as well- but he has maintained the same staff for years and like anyone sometimes people can have a bad day- or maybe could have been easier on the phone – while the times I have had an unpleasant experience – dr Rutstein addesssed them and they were corrected and I was able to understand that maybe his staff like most human beings had an off day- surely they were never abusive or alarmingly unprofessional – we worked through it and it’s been absolutely fine for seven years for me- remember these folks are dealing with people who have issues and it’s challenging – we all have challenging days ourselves – I have had an excellent rapport with his staff even after a handful of challenging moments – Because I myself realize that I too- hold responsibility in how I approach them and handle them and sometimes we can be irrational – I know I have reflected on my shortness of temper or the way I could have approached these challenges better- remember every day they are dealing with dozens of challenges from people who have mental disabilities and you do not know what happened before you called or walked in the room- there are people with extremely serious issues I can imagine and that most likely brings in stressful and serious situations they contend with on a daily basis –
If I could put negative 1000 stars I would. He is abusive and manipulative to his clients. Very dangerous and scary. Absolutely shocking. Pill pusher, toxic pharmacologist.
